I don’t know about you, but I am ready for summer. I want to lay on the grass and listen to tunes with a cider in my hand. I’m super excited about the second instalment of Brighton’s newest family festival Together The People, right on our doorstep in Preston Park this September.

Held over the last weekend of the school holidays (3rd & 4th September), Together The People is the perfect way to end summer with a bang. We all had a great time last year and saw some fantastic world-class music and top kids’ theatre.

This year headline acts include a UK festival exclusive from Brian Wilson performing Pet Sounds in its entirety for the record’s 50th anniversary & re-release.  Brit-pop 90’s legends Suede, The Horrors, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats plus many more.

I’m most looking forward to Peter Hook & The Light performing Joy Division / New Order Greatest Hits and also the totally awesome Songhoy Blues AND Turin Brakes.

2015-09-06 14.13.25Last year the kids really enjoyed the great Cat In The Hat stage show and I’m pleased to hear that this year’s children’s theatre headliners are moving to an open air stage as it was somewhat of a squeeze with all the small people at the festival. I’m also delighted to hear that the lovely team from Child Friendly Brighton and several other local organisations will be adding even more for children to do this year. Plus the strange ‘no readmission’ policy that the council inflicted on families has now been lifted so it’s easier to juggle kids and get an evening off.

As well as the three stages of music, Together The People features the Incredible Moving Picturehouse Cinema, The Soapbox stage hosting a selection of talks, debates, poetry, spoken word, photography exhibitions and acoustic performances from local contributors and beyond.

We enjoyed a delicious range of top quality street food from some of Brighton best independent traders at the first Together The People. This year there are even more choices on offer including meals especially for kids. There will also be roaming street performers, bubble shows, a fun fair, art activities, and even a free family friendly photography workshop to keep little ones busy.

Together The People is an independent festival celebrating music, food, community, film and arts and delivering a high quality, creative, family friendly and socially aware event. In 2015 the festival was powered by bio-diesel & solar technology, recycled over 5.3 tonnes of waste and generated over £2,000 in public donations for local homeless charity ‘Brighton Housing Trust’.

i’d love to take my son to see brian wilson playing ‘pet sounds’, one of my very favourite albums. he listens to rubbish at the mo (he’s 17). i tried to educate him in musical taste but failed. i think this might just work!

I would love to go to this to see Brian Wilson in my favourite city in the UK.

The album Pet Sounds was life changing getting me through a tough time when I discovered it

Then to top it off, it is my favourite band Suede playing the Sunday night

I can’t think of anything more perfect than sharing these moments with my family

I was made redunant by a large corporation and we pulled together to get through it so this celebration would be ideal

I have always wanted to visit Brighton but have never got around to it because it seems so far away from Birmingham. I also think that winning the tickets would force my hand and would mean that I’d finally make the effort to go there. I would add a day or two on to my time in the area so that I could be at the festival and then take a look around the centre of Brighton. I’d like to see the things people tell me about the place. Oh, and I’m festival mad so going to a new one would be a great experience.

I’d love to see Brian Wilson. He’s up there in the pantheon with Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger…..

My husband loves Brian Wilson and my daughters love lazy town and aliens. Me well I love just soaking up the atmosphere. This is right on my doorstep and family friendly. Perfect for us all to enjoy.

Hi I’m looking for a family friendly festival we haven’t attempted one yet and with this one so close to home it would be perfect to get us back into festival life post baby !

This looks like the ideal opportunity to take my 6 year old to her first festival. In fact, Suede played my first festival back in 1996 and I discovered Brian Wilson at a festival too so it’s kinda’ perfect!

Brian Wilson and Suede playing at a festival which is a 5min walk away from home, can’t miss that! Loved Super Furry Animals last year and a friend of mine came especially from France to see Brakes!

I saw Brian Wilsons autobiographical film – Love and Mercy and this really made me love Pet Sounds xxx

It looks like a great fun festival with a positive message… I’d love to be part of it. Plus it would be my first time in Brighton!
