January blues? Let’s go camping!

tent in rainDoes anyone actually like January?

Pretty depressing isn’t it?

Christmas come down, cold and wet, everyone skint, and nothing on TV but holiday ads reminding you of a life you can’t keep up with.

You can’t even cheer yourself up down the pub as everyone sets themselves ridiculous new years resolutions.

January is always detox time in our house. The one time of the year my husband does the shopping. Filling the cupboards with cardboard crackers that sit there till the following January.

So, with 2 bored kids and an uninspiring day what do we do?

Why not hey?

Rob had the idea of going away in the van but I quickly put a stop to that. It’s bloody January! I may be slightly round the bend but I’m not friggin mental!

I’d got the kids a cheap pop up tent for for Christmas. It was £30 and it’s brilliant. Pops up in seconds and very exciting for little ones when it explode!

kids dog tentAfter a few WWF wrestling moves I managed to get it in to their bedroom and we scrambled in. (Note to self – always pop up in the room you are going to use it in)

The kids had an ace time, and I have to admit, so did I. They crammed loads of blankets, cushion and every imaginable soft toy in and we snuggled down.

We told each other stories and had hot chocolate with marshmallows.  I even managed to find a bottle of spiced Rum in the back of the cupboard to jazz mine up a little.

Everyone was happy. Even the dog got in on the action.

Kids went to sleep in their cosy little den and I escaped to another rum (minus the chocolate).

They slept in the tent all weekend and had an emotional breakdown when I said I was taking it down. It actually stayed up a couple of extra nights as it took me that long to work out how to collapse the bloody thing. Probably much easier in a field somewhere than an over crowded kids bedroom!

Is January camping for you?

What a great idea, we normally get our pop up tent out when my daughter has a sleep over, its so much easier. Great for you to think out of the box when it comes to outdoor adventures, especially with the weather at the moment.
